Take a little of the Applesauce Inn home with you

Our own home made jams

We are excited to announce that coming this Spring to the Applesauce Inn Bed and Breakfast we will be making and selling our own home made jams.  All of our jams are made with local fresh fruit, organic sugar and organic lemon juice.  That is it!  We make our jams in small batches, just 6 at a time and of course will be seasonal based on what is available.  So plan on taking a jar or 2 home with you to enjoy!

Our locally made goodies
We will also feature local Bellaire produced honey from Orchard Hill (ISLAND), this honey is made with love!  Minimum heating to retain nutritional quality, hand-crank extracted and bottled by hand in limited editions of 24 jars. Each jar in individually numbered!  Pretty cool!

Benjamin Twiggs~A Traverse City Legend
We will also very excited to be selling various quality Traverse City cherry products from Benjamin Twiggs,
Some of our favorites that we will feature are the Cherry Pie Filling (to die for), the Campfire Crackle (popcorn, pecans, almonds and dried cherries), Chocolate covered cherries, blueberries and cherry-raspberries, Buttermilk pancake mixes and so much more!

We look forward to sharing our local goodies with you!  Come up and visit the B&B soon!

Week of Meetings and the promise of Spring

Our little Faerie Garden
Although we still have about a foot and 1/2 of snow on the ground, the promise of spring is everywhere here at the Applesauce Inn B&B!  Spring cleaning, fresh paint and new linens are all hints to the coming of the new season!  The sun light lingers a bit more in the evening and every day new birds are spotted at our numerous bird feeders out back.  Soon the many daffodils, tulips, lilies and anemones I planted last fall will be gracing us with their beautiful little faces and the blue birds will be singing again!

I spent this week in various meetings for several of our local community organizations -Bellaire Chamber, Parkside Arts Council and Destination Bellaire, but the one I am most excited about is our new Community Garden planned for the town of Mancelona!  Institute for Sustainable Living, Art, Natural Design is one of our local organizations that features workshops on gardening, beekeeping and local food.  They, like me, are supporters of the local food movement that is very important to our local economy (as well as for our health and general well-being)....and have worked with several towns to create both community and school gardens.  I am thrilled to be a part of this group as a mentor gardener, and I will also have my own small plot to garden...along with my own garden for our guests here at the B&B.

So much is happening here in our little community~hope you will come up North soon and check it out!

Happy Planting!
Jamie

Snow Day in Pictures

Snowy Sign
Winter graced us again for the last day of January!  Just in time for several winter festivals that are happening around the area this weekend.  Skiers are rejoicing, and we have several folks coming up next weekend to go cross country skiing at Grass River.  The snow is here!!  Come enjoy winter before she is gone!
